Position: Welfare Policy Analyst
ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION:
The Utah Community Action Partnership Association (UCAPA) works with and on behalf of Utah's nine local community action agencies to address the causes and effects of poverty in Utah. The model of community action brings together low-income individuals with public and private sector partners to identify local priorities and strategies for achieving measurable improvements in lives and communities.
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
The analyst will work with UCAPA staff, members, community partners, national organizations and state departments to provide policy analysis and research on welfare and work support issues. The analyst will produce fact sheets, position papers, and reports that will be used to educate legislators, community partners and the public about welfare policy and funding issues. This individual will also produce regular updates over the Internet through newsletters, the UCAPA website, and a blog. The Analyst will host and attend regular informational meetings with advocates and the public and will also collaborate with staff to coordinate an annual report on Poverty in Utah, Democracy Day event at the Legislature as well as other agency wide events and activities.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Must be detail oriented and possess strong interpersonal skills
·
Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines successfully
·
Experience working with low-income individuals is encouraged
·
Familiarity with welfare and work-support programs and services available to low-income individuals preferred
·
Computer proficient
·
Strong written and oral communication skills
·
Must be willing to travel and work occasional evenings and/or weekends as required
·
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

The Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance is seeking a passionate professional to join our three-person development team in Slat Lake City as Development Manager. The right person loves Utah’s Redrock Country and has strong writing, communications and personal skills, and previous development experience. SUWA is a 25-year old organization with 15,000 members, a highly dedicated 20-member staff, a balanced Our mission is the preservation of the outstanding wilderness at the heart of the Colorado Plateau, and the management of these lands in their natural state for the benefit of all Americans.
Job Description Summary: Working in partnership with the Associate Director and the Membership Coordinator, the Development Manager is the lead person in researching, writing and managing grants, managing SUWA’s Business Member program, and managing fund raising events, and also participates in all other development activities including membership, direct mail, publications, planned giving, monthly giving, web giving, stewardship, and our major donor program.
Qualifications:
- B.A. degree and some fund raising experience
- 3-5 years direct work experience desired
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Demonstrated passion for protecting Utah wilderness

Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance - Western Regional Organizer
For 25 years the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance (SUWA) has been working to protect and preserve Utah's magnificent redrock wilderness. With a strong base of support that includes 15,000 members from across the nation, SUWA is the leading advocate for public land conservation on the Colorado Plateau. The Western Regional Organizer is an essential member of SUWA's organizing and outreach team. Working out of our Salt Lake City office, the Western Regional Organizer will have responsibility for developing and coordinating a wide array of outreach, organizing activities and programs in Utah and surrounding western states. The Western Regional Organizer works in close cooperation with volunteer leaders and staff; trains activists; coordinates grassroots public education and legislative advocacy
activities. The Western Regional Organizer will also be a member of our electronic outreach team, finding new and effective ways to communicate with members, activists and supporters in the region and throughout the nation. Qualifications: Interested candidates should have at least 1-2 years' experience in grassroots organizing, or work in the environmental movement, political campaigns or similar organizations; strong demonstrated written and verbal communications skills; a commitment to wild land conservation; demonstrated ability to work effectively with volunteers and to mobilize community activism; willingness to travel; and, computer proficiency.
