Academic Information
Biography and Research InterestsDr. Patton is the Director of the Center for Public Policy and Administration and Research Professor in the Department of Political Science. The mission of the Center is to facilitate improved public policy making and public administration in Utah . His research interests include state and local government, public leadership, regionalism, labor relations and negotiation. He has recently published the text: Human Resource Management: the Public Service Perspective, Houghton Mifflin, 2002, and several articles: "Political Culture and Ideology in the Mountain West: Regionalism in the State of Idaho, Social Science Journal, 2004; "Assessing the Training Needs of High-Potential Managers, Public Personnel Management, 2002; and Intrastate Regional Differences in Political Culture: A Case Study of Idaho, State and Local Government Review, 2001. Dr. Patton has held several administrative positions in government, Most recently he was the Director of the Center for Public Policy and Administration and Professor at Boise State University . He has also served as the Training Coordinator for CPPA at the University of Utah , the Chief Labor Relations Negotiator and Senior Management Analyst in the Salt Lake City Mayor's Office, and Research Director for the Utah Public Employees' Association. |
